Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is also known as “talk therapy” or counseling. It provides a framework to identify symptoms and understand your responses to problems more accurately. It usually provides support for navigating through difficult life situations, identifies and addresses skills helpful to meeting your goals, and suggests other resources for growth and change.

What is a psychoeducational evaluation?

A psychoeducational evaluation is generally a comprehensive evaluation of intelligence, academic achievement, learning strengths and weaknesses, personality, and behavior. From your referral questions our psychologists will determine specifically what your evaluation should include.

How do I know if I need assistance specifically from a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, dietitian, or art therapist?

When unsure, please call our office, and our intake specialist will talk with you about your needs to recommend the type of specialist you may want to consult. You can also look at the individual provider descriptions.

Are PK clinicians “in-network” providers for specific insurance companies?

Our providers are considered “out-of-network” for all commercial insurance plans. As non-providers for Medicare, claims can’t be filed and reimbursement is not available for services provided.

How long will I need to wait for an appointment?

Appointment availability varies. Please call our office to ask about a clinician’s schedule to know when a first appointment could be arranged.

How frequently do I come in if my psychiatrist manages medications?

A psychiatrist meets with you for a complete evaluation and then makes recommendations regarding interventions and a schedule for follow-up visits depending upon your needs.

Where can I park for my appointment?

Free Parking is available in the lot next to the Chase Bank parking lot. The building is directly across the street at 1539 Jackson Ave.
